
Anthony David Gonzalez was conceived in Torrance on February 27, 1976. He grew up in the southern part of California and was a student at Huntington Beach High School where He was a leading player on both the football and basketball teams. Gonzalez continued to excel in these sports at the University of California, Berkeley. He led the football team to the 1996 Aloha Bowl. Here, he tied the record for school bowls with nine receptions. Gonzalez later led the basketball team to Sweet 16 in the NCAA basketball tournament a few weeks after. He left college for the 1997 NFL Draft. Gonzalez was selected as the 13th overall selection by the Kansas City Chiefs. Gonzalez was playing for the Chiefs between 1997 and 2008. He was then transferred to the Atlanta Falcons. In his second year in the NFL, he never caught less than 59 passes in a season.
